Ministry of Immigration and Corrections: Director General of Immigration Appointed, Selection for Head of BPSDM Continues
The Ministry of Immigration and Corrections (Kemenimipas) announced that the open selection process for the position of Director General (Dirjen) of Immigration has been closed. The open selection process for the position of Head of BPSDM Kemenimipas remains ongoing.
Previously, Deputy Minister (Wamen) of Imipas Silmy Karim announced that Kemenimipas would conduct an open selection process for the positions of Director General of Immigration and Head of BPSDM Kemenimipas. However, a Presidential Decree (Keppres) regarding the appointment of Senior Executive Officials within Kemenimipas has been issued, which establishes the official for the position of Director General of Immigration.
“The appointment of the Director General of Immigration has already been issued through a Presidential Decree. With this Presidential Decree in place, the results of the first stage of selection will not be proceeded with,” explained M. Akbar Hadiprabowo, Head of the Data, Information and Public Communications Centre of Kemenimipas, in a written statement on Tuesday (10 March 2026).
Hadiprabowo explained that this is in accordance with applicable regulations, as the President has the authority to issue such a Presidential Decree. The purpose, he continued, is to ensure continuity of leadership and the implementation of institutional duties and functions.
“This appointment is an exercise of government authority in order to ensure continuity of leadership and the implementation of institutional duties and functions,” Akbar clarified.
In response to the Presidential Decree, Akbar explained that the ministry had closed the open selection process for the position of Director General of Immigration. “Therefore, the open selection process for the position of Director General of Immigration will not proceed, whilst the selection process for the position of Head of BPSDM will continue as originally planned,” he added.
