JAKARTA - The Ministry of Human Rights views that the TNI needs to carry out reorganisation and strengthening of internal discipline in the aftermath of the acid splashing incident against the Deputy Coordinator of the Commission for the Disappeared and Victims of Violence (KontraS), Andrie Yunus.

“The Ministry of Human Rights believes that the TNI needs to continue carrying out reorganisation and strengthening of internal discipline more consistently,” stated Deputy Minister Mugiyanto in his statement on Thursday (19/3/2026).

In this case, four members of the TNI Strategic Intelligence Agency (BAIS) have been named as suspects.

“(This is) as part of efforts to maintain the honour of the TNI institution and broader public trust,” Mugiyanto continued.

Furthermore, this incident is hoped to become a momentum to strengthen prevention efforts against violence, especially those concerning human rights issues.

Mugiyanto also encouraged strengthening the human rights perspective in various lines, particularly in the education and development processes of state apparatus.

Mugiyanto assured that the Ministry of Human Rights will continue to monitor the handling of the Andrie Yunus case to ensure that all legal processes comply with human rights principles and applicable laws and regulations.

“The success of handling this case will be measured not only from the legal resolution against the perpetrators, but also from the state’s ability to ensure that similar incidents do not recur, and in maintaining a balance between the use of authority and the protection of human rights,” Mugiyanto concluded.

So far, they have been detained at the TNI Military Police Corps (Puspom) before being transferred to the Jayakarta Military District Command (Pomdam Jaya) detention.

Nevertheless, Puspom TNI has not yet disclosed the detailed roles of the four TNI personnel. However, two of the four personnel were the executors of the acid splashing against Andrie Yunus.

Not only that, the TNI has also not revealed the motive for the acid splashing.

Because Puspom TNI only received the suspects on Wednesday (18/3/2026), further investigation processes are needed.

As a result of the attack, Andrie suffered burns on several parts of his body, including his eyes, face, chest, and hands.

Based on the initial diagnosis by the medical team at Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital, the victim suffered burns to approximately 24 percent of his body.

Coordinator of KontraS Working Body Dimas Bagus Arya stated that the incident occurred after Andrie finished recording a podcast at the office of the Indonesian Legal Aid Foundation (YLBHI), Menteng, Jakarta.
