Ministry of Human Rights Urges Regional Regulation Analyses Not to Be Shelved
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Human Rights has urged that the results of analyses and evaluations of regional regulations should not merely become administrative documents, but should be submitted to relevant agencies so they can be followed up in policy refinement.
“When you have completed these recommendations, I hope they are not just kept in a drawer. Submit them to the relevant agencies, submit them to the Ministry of Human Rights, and later we will try to convey them to the Ministry of Home Affairs,” said Sofia Alatas, Acting Director General of Instruments and Strengthening of Human Rights at the Ministry of Human Rights.
Sofia made the statement while opening the “Assistance Consignment for the Analysis and Evaluation of Draft Regional Regulations and Regional Regulations from a Human Rights Perspective” in Jakarta on Monday.
She expressed hope that the analyses compiled by regional offices would not stop as internal reports but would be forwarded to local government agencies or ministries and institutions at the central level for follow-up.
“So that the results of your analyses can be followed up by those agencies or by ministries and institutions at the central level,” she said.
This follow-up is important to ensure that every regional policy increasingly incorporates the protection of human rights. It serves to prevent the birth of regional regulations that potentially violate human rights due to inadequate policy substance.
Sofia stated that the apparatus of the Ministry of Human Rights have two main tasks related to regional legal products: assisting in the planning stage of regulations and evaluating existing policies to assess whether they have a human rights perspective.
“I urge you to learn as much as possible during this activity so that in the future there will be no difficulties in analysing a legal product. We know that there are many policies in Indonesia, but it would be regrettable if they do not incorporate human rights aspects,” she concluded.
