Ministry of Human Rights Inaugurates 497 Contract-Based Government Employees to Strengthen Human Rights Services
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Human Rights (KemenHAM) has inaugurated 4pend 497 Government Employees with Work Agreements (PPPK) as part of an effort to strengthen the capacity of the apparatus in providing human rights services and protection.
The Secretary General of KemenHAM, Novita Ilmaris, administered the inauguration, oath, and promise of functional office for the 497 PPPK simultaneously in Jakarta on Tuesday, both in person and via the Zoom application.
In her statement, Novita noted that the high public interest in becoming PPPK demonstrates a significant desire to serve through the bureaucracy. Consequently, the status of being a civil servant (ASN) must be accompanied by proper attitude, behaviour, integrity, and professionalism in performing duties.
“Making yourselves worthy means that from this day forward, you must be able to act and behave as proper civil servants,” said Novita.
She stated that KemenHAM will prepare various competency development programmes to assist PPPK in adapting and increasing their professionalism. This step is necessary given the growing challenges and public expectations regarding human rights protection and enforcement.
Novita also requested that PPPK personnel undertake independent competency development by studying the fundamentals of human rights law, including Law Number 39 of 1999 concerning Human Rights, the 1945 Constitution, and international human rights instruments ratified by Indonesia.
Furthermore, employees are required to understand the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), the organisational regulations and procedures of KemenHAM, as well as provisions regarding civil servants and the management of PNS and PPPK.
To accelerate the adaptation process, Novita will instruct supervisory and administrative officials to provide coaching and mentoring to the PPPK, particularly during the initial period of employment, which is considered vital for character and professionalism building.
“The success of the Republic of Indonesia’s Ministry of Human Rights depends heavily on your presence. If you are able to work professionally, it will significantly contribute to the role of KemenHAM,” she said.
Novita also reminded the PPPK to keep up with developments in human rights regulations, including new rules that will serve as the foundation for KemenHAM’s duties.
“In the near future this year, new laws will be introduced, along with several ministerial regulations for Human Rights and a Presidential Regulation regarding the sixth generation of the National Action Plan on Human Rights (RANHAM), which are substantively extraordinary,” said Novita.
The signing of the minutes of the inauguration and the oath/promise of functional office was conducted by PPPK representatives from the central unit. The inauguration was attended by high-ranking officials and the KemenHAM staff.
