Ministry of Human Rights clarifies Pigai's narrative regarding BGN and corruptors is hoax

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Human Rights has clarified that several pieces of information circulating on social media, falsely attributed to Minister of Human Rights Natalius Pigai regarding alleged corruption in the National Nutrition Agency (BGN) and the death penalty for corruptors, are false or hoaxes. The Ministry of Human Rights stated that the narratives circulating, which appear to be official statements from the Minister, were never made by Natalius Pigai nor issued by the ministry. “I have never made the statements circulating in those posts. That information is a hoax,” said Pigai in a statement received in Jakarta on Monday. He requested that the public do not believe or disseminate information that lacks clear sources and cannot be verified for accuracy. The Ministry of Human Rights noted that this clarification was made to prevent the spread of disinformation that could mislead the public, particularly regarding sensitive issues involving government policy and law enforcement. As an effort to maintain the accuracy of public information, the Ministry of Human Rights urged the public to verify every piece of information received, especially those using the names of public officials or state institutions. The Ministry also requested that the public refer to the ministry’s official communication channels to obtain valid and accountable information. Furthermore, the Ministry of Human Rights invited the public to play an active role in maintaining a healthy digital space by not creating, spreading, or believing unverified information, in order to prevent the spread of disinformation and maintain public trust in official government information.
