Ministry of Human Rights Breaks World Record for Largest Human Rights Lesson
Minister of Human Rights Natalius Pigai said the ministry he leads has broken a world record through a human rights education and outreach activity attended by around 6,000 participants, a record previously held by Ecuador’s police since 2018.
“This world record was previously held by Ecuador’s police since 2018. We broke the record today because we have carried out human rights education outreach to the public,” Pigai said in Sumedang, West Java, on Friday.
He said the achievement was established through the record for the “Largest Human Rights Lesson”, pursued by the Human Resources Development Centre (PPSDM) of the Ministry of Human Rights of the Republic of Indonesia.
Pigai explained that the human rights education and outreach was carried out on a massive scale as part of efforts to build human rights awareness across Indonesia.
“Before the outreach to 2,300 people here in Sumedang, we had already conducted sessions in West Kalimantan, Mandailing Natal, Gorontalo, and North Sumatra. The average total is around 6,000 people,” he said.
He stressed that human rights education and outreach is one of the main duties of the Ministry of Human Rights as instructed by the President.
He assessed that the achievement represents global recognition of the Ministry of Human Rights’ performance in building human rights awareness in Indonesia.
“In my view, I believe this is global recognition. This is not about me personally. It means the Ministry of Human Rights has achieved something, and we have demonstrated it with today’s result,” he said.
Pigai expressed hope that the achievement would not merely be an award, but also a momentum to strengthen human rights education and awareness in Indonesia.
“I believe that one day Indonesia will become a world champion in the context of human rights,” he said.
The record confirmation was marked by the presentation of a Guinness World Records certificate to Minister of Human Rights Natalius Pigai, accompanied by the Vice Rector for Administration of the Institute of Domestic Governance (IPDN) and the Head of the Human Resources Development Centre.
Meanwhile, Guinness World Records Official Adjudicator Aynee Toorabally said her team had examined all the evidence and conducted an assessment of the activity before confirming the world record achievement.
“After examining all the evidence and completing the assessment, I can confirm that this participation has successfully broken the previous record,” she said.
According to Aynee, the previous record for the category was recorded in Ecuador in 2018 with 1,772 participants, which was successfully surpassed in the human rights education activity by the Ministry of Human Rights of the Republic of Indonesia.
