REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — The government continues to push collaboration with the banking sector to widen access to housing financing for the public. The Shariah financing scheme is seen as having significant potential to support the national housing programme, including fostering the emergence of a new middle class.

The Minister of Housing and Settlements (PKP), Maruarar Sirait, met with the President Director of Bank Syariah Indonesia (BSI), Anggoro Eko Cahyo, and his colleagues at The Tower, Jakarta, on Thursday (21 May 2026), to discuss strengthening cooperation in support of government housing financing.

Maruarar expressed appreciation for BSI’s support for various government programmes, especially in the rakyat housing sector. “We would like to thank BSI for its support and contributions to government programmes, including housing. Such collaboration is important so that more people can access decent and affordable homes,” Maruarar said.

According to him, the Housing Credit Programme (KPP) shows positive development in several regions. One of the highest achievements was recorded at the KPP socialisation activities conducted by BSI in Mataram, West Nusa Tenggara, with realised financing of Rp315.7 billion.

He said the KPP programme is also part of the government’s effort to widen access to home ownership while also encouraging middle class growth.

Nationally, the realisation of KPP to date stands at around Rp16.2 trillion. Meanwhile, KPP disbursement by BSI has reached about 67 percent of the Rp1.2 trillion target or around Rp800 billion, with the majority of debtors stemming from public demand.

BSI’s President Director Anggoro Eko Cahyo said that they are committed to continuing to support government programmes in the housing sector through Sharia financing.

“Thank you for the opportunity to discuss government programmes directly. BSI is committed to supporting government programmes including in the housing sector,” Anggoro said.

He explained that in 2026 BSI targets disbursement of the Housing Programme Credit (KPP) amounting to Rp1.2 trillion. In addition, BSI also supports the disbursement of the Housing Financing Liquidity Facility (FLPP) with a target of 5,540 subsidised housing units. “To date, 1,250 units have already been realised under the akad,” Anggoro said.

The government hopes that collaboration with the Islamic banking sector can broaden access to decent housing financing for the public while also supporting the acceleration of the national housing development target.
