Ministry of Housing and Ministry of Culture Prepare Housing Assistance Programme for Artists and Cultural Workers

The Ministry of Housing and Residential Areas (PKP) is collaborating with the Ministry of Culture (Kemenbud) to prepare the Self-Help Housing Stimulant Assistance (BSPS) programme for 3,053 artists, cultural workers, and heritage site custodians proposed by the Ministry of Culture.

Minister of PKP Maruarar Sirait (Ara) stated that the data for the proposed recipients will be verified over the next two weeks to ensure the assistance reaches the intended targets. “What we have agreed upon is 3,053 units for artists. This will be verified by the team during these two weeks,” Ara said following a meeting with Minister of Culture Fadli Zon at the Ministry of PKP in Jakarta on Monday.

He noted that the verification results will be presented in a follow-up meeting with the Ministry of Culture on 2 June 2026. According to Ara, recipients must meet the BSPS programme requirements, including falling within the first to fourth economic deciles, to ensure the aid is provided to those most in need. Other requirements include clear legal status of the house, no prior receipt of BSPS assistance, and the house being in an uninhabitable condition, specifically regarding the state of the floors, walls, and roofs.

Nationally, the BSPS programme targets 400,000 units this year, a significant increase from 42,000 units in the previous year. Ara mentioned that the Ministry of PKP has allocated approximately Rp8 trillion from a total budget of around Rp10 trillion for the house renovation programme. “From our Rp10 trillion budget, roughly Rp8 trillion is dedicated to renovating uninhabitable houses for the people,” he added.

Meanwhile, Minister of Culture Fadli Zon stated that the proposal includes cultural practitioners, artists, and custodians who maintain cultural sites and heritage across various regions. He emphasised that these groups require housing improvement support to sustain their cultural activities. “What we are proposing involves cultural practitioners, artists in need, and the custodians who protect cultural heritage sites throughout Indonesia,” Fadli explained. He noted that the data collection is being conducted through the Ministry of Culture’s network, including 33 Cultural Preservation Centres across all provinces.
