Ministry of Home Affairs: Strategic Papua Conference Strengthens Development Based on Local Wisdom
Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Ribka Haluk commended the Strategic Papua Conference for reinforcing development in Papua grounded in local wisdom and support for indigenous communities.
“This conference is not merely an academic forum but a collective reflection space to openly and thoroughly discuss dignified, just, and genuinely pro-indigenous Papuan development aspirations,” Haluk stated in Jakarta on Friday.
She made the remarks during the Third Strategic Papua Analysis Conference at the Papua Youth Creative Hub in Jayapura.
Haluk also conveyed greetings and appreciation from Home Affairs Minister Muhammad Tito Karnavian to all involved in organising the conference for bringing stakeholders together in one forum.
She explained that Papua’s development is a crucial part of the national roadmap toward Golden Indonesia 2045.
She stressed that modernisation must not erode Papua’s identity, values, and cultural heritage.
“By 2045, as Indonesia becomes a developed and modern nation, we must not lose our foundation or cultural identity,” she said.
According to Haluk, development should not only focus on economic and infrastructure progress but also preserve social, cultural, and local values within Papuan communities.
She emphasised the importance of involving indigenous communities and respecting local wisdom in all development processes.
“The conference is a vital initiative as Indonesia aims to become a developed and modern nation by 2045,” she added.
Attendees included Deputy Minister for Human Rights Mugiyanto, West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi, Depok Mayor Supian Suri, Cianjur Regent Mohammad Wahyu Ferdian, Purwakarta Regent Saepul Bahri Binzein, Acting Provincial Secretary of Papua Lukas Christian Sohilait, and other relevant parties.
