Ministry of Home Affairs Hosts 2026 Regional Sulawesi Local Government Awards
The Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri) held the 2026 Regional Sulawesi Outstanding Local Government Appreciation event in Kendari, Southeast Sulawesi (Sultra), on Friday, 29 May.
The event, organised in collaboration with Kompas.com, aimed to recognise achievements in four categories: unemployment reduction, creative financing, inflation control, and poverty and stunting mitigation.
Minister of Home Affairs Muhammad Tito Karnavian stated that the awards were a form of appreciation from the central government to local governments demonstrating excellence in administration and public service. Award-winning regions received government assistance of Rp3 billion for first place, Rp2 billion for second, and Rp1 billion for third.
He explained that regional-based awards ensure fair and proportional evaluation, given Indonesia’s diverse regional characteristics and challenges. ‘That is why we have divided it into regions. The Sumatra region was held previously in Palembang, Kalimantan in Balikpapan, and recently in Mataram,’ Tito said.
He confirmed that assessments were conducted objectively using data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) and the Local Government Information System (SIPD). Similar events will be held for the Java-Bali and Papua regions.
Tito expressed hope that the event would foster inter-regional competition to improve service quality for citizens. ‘This initiative is part of our effort to reward and motivate regional leaders, as well as demonstrate that many local leaders are doing good work,’ he added.
In the unemployment reduction category, for regencies, Kolaka Regency was awarded first place, Konawe Islands Regency second, and North Kolaka Regency third. In cities, Baubau City took first, Kendari City second, and Parepare City third. For provinces, West Sulawesi Province received the award.
In the creative financing category, Wajo Regency secured first place for regencies, followed by Kolaka Regency in second and Mamasa Regency in third. Makassar City claimed first place among cities, with Palu City second and Manado City third. South Sulawesi Province and Southeast Sulawesi Province took first and second place respectively for provinces.
In the inflation control category, Sigi Regency was awarded first place among regencies, Polewali Mandar Regency second, and Takalar Regency third. Bitung City took first in cities, Palopo City second, and Palu City third. Gorontalo Province and Central Sulawesi Province secured first and second place for provinces.
In the poverty reduction and stunting mitigation category, Sidenreng Rappang Regency was awarded first place for regencies, followed by East Bolaang Mongondow Regency in second and Gowa Regency in third. Tomohon City claimed first among cities, with Manado City second and Makassar City third. North Sulawesi Province received the provincial award.
