The Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemdagri) held the 2026 Regional Sulawesi Local Government Excellence Awards at Claro Hotel in Kendari, Southeast Sulawesi, on Friday, 29 May 2026. The event was organised in collaboration with Kompas.com.

Kemdagri awarded local governments for their achievements in four categories: unemployment reduction, creative financing, inflation control, and poverty reduction and stunting mitigation.

Minister of Home Affairs Muhammad Tito Karnavian stated the awards recognise central government appreciation for local governments that have demonstrated excellence in governance and public service. He explained that regional-based awards ensure a fair and proportionate assessment process, given differing characteristics and challenges across Indonesia. He expressed hope the event would foster inter-regional competition to improve service quality for citizens.

‘This event is one of our efforts to recognise and motivate regional leaders. It also demonstrates that many local leaders excel,’ he said.

In the unemployment reduction category at regency level, Kolaka Regency received First Prize. Konawe Islands Regency and North Kolaka Regency secured Second and Third prizes respectively. At city level, Baubau City took First Prize, Kendari City Second, and Parepare Third. West Sulawesi Province received the provincial-level award.

For creative financing at regency level, Wajo Regency won First Prize, Kolaka Regency Second, and Mamasa Regency Third. At city level, Makassar City claimed First Prize, followed by Palu City as Second and Manado City as Third.
