Ministry of Home Affairs Collaborates with South Korea to Strengthen National Emergency Services
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Director General of Regional Administration Development at the Ministry of Home Affairs, Safrizal Zakaria Ali, stated that his office has established cooperation with South Korea’s National Fire Agency to strengthen and develop the National Single Emergency Call Number (NTPD) 112 in Indonesia.
“The development of NTPD 112 is one of the government’s priorities in providing fast and integrated services,” Safrizal said in a confirmed statement in Jakarta on Thursday.
He conveyed this while accompanying Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian in receiving a working visit from the Commissioner of South Korea’s National Fire Agency, Seung Ryong Kim, in Jakarta on Wednesday (13/5).
The activity serves as a follow-up to the Minister of Home Affairs’ directives regarding plans to strengthen and develop the NTPD 112 in Indonesia.
Safrizal said the visit provides an opportunity to bolster the national integrated emergency service system that is quick and responsive to various emergency situations.
On that occasion, Safrizal also handed over a Letter of Intent (LoI) to the representative of South Korea’s National Fire Agency, Seung Ryong Kim, as an initial step to strengthen cooperation between the two countries in developing the national emergency service system, particularly the nationwide implementation of NTPD 112 in Indonesia.
Safrizal explained that the scope of cooperation outlined in the LoI includes the establishment and development of fire suppression, disaster, and emergency rescue reporting systems in Indonesia, including technical consultations and sharing policy experiences between the two countries.
Additionally, the cooperation encompasses joint participation and support in organising international exhibitions, seminars, workshops, or similar activities related to fire suppression and emergency rescue services.
“We are optimistic that with this LoI, the integration development of NTPD 112 will become more optimal, and we also open opportunities to strengthen human resource capacity through education programmes, training, and personnel exchanges to enhance the competence of apparatus in firefighting and rescue,” he stated.
South Korea’s experience in building an integrated emergency service system serves as an important reference for Indonesia, particularly in strengthening coordination and optimising rapid responses to emergency conditions.
The South Korean side also expressed its commitment to assist Indonesia in the nationwide implementation of NTPD 112 services, including through technical support, system development, and enhancement of human resource capacity.
