Ministry of Home Affairs Assures Key Documents Safe After Building D Fire
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri) has assured that important documents remain safe following a fire in Building D of the Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri), General Directorate of Village Governance Development and General Directorate of Population and Civil Registration, in Pasar Minggu.
“No strategic documents were affected. Our strategic documents are in Building B,” said Secretary of the Directorate General of Village Governance Development at Kemendagri, Murtono, when met at the fire location in Jakarta on Monday.
Murtono stated that the fire did indeed impact several administrative documents.
Nevertheless, he assured that no strategic documents were burned.
“As for documents, document archives, yes, possibly because this is the work room that was burned, so document archives,” he said.
The fire in Building D is part of the Ministry of Home Affairs complex, which consists of five buildings, namely Buildings A to E.
Murtono explained that the fire did not consume the entire building, but only parts of rooms on several floors.
“Building D consists of four floors. The fire did not occur on all floors, only parts of rooms on the 1st to 4th floors,” he said.
To date, the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
The Ministry of Home Affairs has left the determination of the fire’s origin to the firefighting team conducting identification in the field.
As many as 75 personnel from the South Jakarta Fire and Rescue Sub-Department (Sudin Gulkarmat) extinguished the fire in Building D, Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri), General Directorate of Village Governance Development and General Directorate of Population and Civil Registration, in Pasar Minggu, South Jakarta (Jaksel).
The fire report was received at 13:38 WIB. Then, personnel began operations at 13:47 WIB.
The fire was known to have originated from the second floor, and seven fire engine units were deployed to the location.
