Ministry of Home Affairs and PII Award Local Governments with Highest Engineering Index

Development must be assessed based on whether it is well-planned, executed professionally, and utilises appropriate and sustainable technology.

he Head of the Centre for Policy Strategy for Human Resource Development, Government Digitalisation, and Domestic Government Innovation at the Ministry of Home Affairs, David Yama, stated this in a briefing confirmed in Jakarta on Sunday.

David noted that the involvement of engineers is essential from the planning, implementation, and supervision stages through to evaluation and ensuring the sustainability of development. Consequently, the Regional Engineering Index (IKD) must be measured in every region.

Meanwhile, the General Chairman of PII, Ilham Akbar Habibie, expressed appreciation to the Ministry of Home Affairs for the cooperation in conducting this inaugural IKD measurement.

“On behalf of the Institution of Engineers Indonesia, I would like to express my appreciation to the Ministry of Home Affairs, particularly the Agency for Domestic Policy Strategy, which has welcomed PII’s initiative to collaborate on measuring the Regional Engineering Index,” said Ilham.

“The Regional Engineering Index is more than just an award. The results of the IKD measurement serve as an indicator that engineering practices are beginning to be positioned as an essential part of regional development governance,” he added.

In this maiden measurement, the Ministry of Home Affairs and PII assessed 327 regional governments at both provincial and regency/city levels.

North Maluku received the Platinum award as the region with the highest score in the 2026 IKD measurement.

At the regency/city level, Sragen Regency received the Silver IKD award, while Balikpapan City achieved the Bronze IKD award.
