Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri) together with the Ministry of Public Works (PU) are targeting the completion of the Core Area of the Government Centre (KIPP) in the New Autonomous Regions (DOB) of Papua by 2028.

“Hopefully, the development of these new autonomous regions, which is our great hope, will be inaugurated by Mr. President in 2028,” said Deputy Minister of Home Affairs (Wamendagri) Ribka Haluk in a statement in Jakarta, Thursday.

Ribka said that the Ministry of Home Affairs continues to strengthen coordination with all related parties in order to accelerate the development.

She emphasized the importance of accelerating the development of the KIPP in the DOB Papua while ensuring legal certainty and synergy between ministries/agencies. The development target is planned to be completed by 2028.

“There are many programs being carried out (for the KIPP). In addition to building the governor’s office, the DPR, and the MRP, there are also several sanitation facilities, roads, and several programs that we believe will greatly help people in the region,” she said.

Ribka appreciated all parties who continue to work tirelessly in carrying out their duties. Based on her working visit some time ago, the progress of the KIPP development in several DOB showed quite significant progress.

Although there are still several things that need attention, including legal aspects in several regions, she ensured that efforts and coordination with governors and related parties continue to be carried out to ensure that the completion runs smoothly.

She also underlined the clarity regarding the possibility of new tenders or other mechanisms related to the development.

“We ask for the support of the governors of the four DOB regions, as well as the community and the regional leadership coordination forum (Forkopimda) there to jointly provide full support to the Ministry of Public Works, and also the Ministry of Home Affairs, which continue to accelerate the development of the special autonomous regions in Papua,” she said.

In addition, Ribka highlighted the developments in Papua Pegunungan. Specifically, she said that on February 6, a discussion was held regarding the focus location of the KIPP in Papua Pegunungan.

The construction of the governor’s office, the Papua DPR, and the Papua People’s Assembly (MRP) is targeted to meet all criteria and can be carried out this year, with the support of the Ministry of Public Works and synergy between the central and regional governments.

She said that because the KIPP DOB development is part of the National Strategic Project (PSN), it is hoped that it can later be inaugurated by President Prabowo Subianto or Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka after all stages and development are completed.

Ribka also emphasized the importance of a clear division of authority between the central and regional governments so that they can work together well. In the near future, the Ministry of Home Affairs together with the Ministry of Public Works plans to go directly to the region to ensure that various obstacles can be resolved in an integrated manner.

“We would like to express our highest appreciation and gratitude to the Ministry of Public Works for its continued commitment and efforts to build the four DOB regions with the KIPP,” she said.

Meanwhile, Deputy Minister of Public Works Diana Kusumastuti said that three provinces have shown quite significant development progress. She detailed that West Papua has been completed, South Papua has even been operationalized.

Meanwhile, Central Papua is now starting to enter the implementation stage of development. As for the other province, namely Papua Pegunungan, it still needs acceleration because they are still waiting for the feasibility study (FS) and master plan documents.

In 2026, access to these documents is targeted to be available so that the acceleration of the KIPP development in Papua Pegunungan can be realized immediately.

“I hope that in 2028, in accordance with our meeting with Commission II (of the Indonesian House of Representatives) yesterday, it can be operationalized and hopefully can be inaugurated by Mr. President Prabowo Subianto for the four DOBs in Papua,” said Diana.
