Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Wamendiktisaintek) Fauzan is promoting the strengthening of students’ roles through the Impactful Education Programme.

This was highlighted at the closing of the 5th Congress of the United Banten Student Executive Body (BEM), themed “Impactful Education for an Advanced Indonesia”, held at the Indonesian University of Education (UPI) Serang Campus on Sunday (12/4).

From Jakarta on Monday, Wamendiktisaintek stated that student forums like this congress are vital for collaboration, building leadership, and enhancing the capacity of the younger generation.

“Such forums are highly strategic for organising. They are not mere rituals but hold great significance in consolidating the emergence of future leaders,” said Deputy Minister Fauzan.

Furthermore, Deputy Minister Fauzan spotlighted the increasingly strategic role of students as agents of change in safeguarding democracy, social justice, and regional development. In the context of higher education transformation, students are required to deliver tangible contributions to society.

“In addition to academic success, students must possess critical thinking skills, collaboration abilities, and readiness to face real-world realities,” stated Wamendiktisaintek Fauzan.

Meanwhile, the Director of UPI Serang Campus, Supriadi, conveyed the importance of the campus’s role in nurturing and supporting student development as future leaders.

The student representative and Coordinator of the United Banten BEM Centre, Bagas Yulianto, emphasised the importance of students’ role in bridging community aspirations, particularly in the regions.

According to him, student movements must go beyond discourse and become a real force in driving regional development through impactful education.

“We must be able to bring ideas and solutions, including ensuring that issues in society, such as in remote villages, can be conveyed to local and central governments,” said Bagas Yulianto.
