Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Kemdiktisaintek) is opening opportunities for collaboration in higher education, science, technology, research, and human resource development between Indonesia and Kazakhstan.

In a statement in Jakarta on Monday, Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology Brian Yuliarto welcomed the progress in educational relations between Indonesia and Kazakhstan. He noted that both countries have significant potential to strengthen cooperation, particularly in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM), which serves as the foundation for a knowledge-based economy.

“We see Kazakhstan as a strategic partner in the Central Asian region. There are many opportunities that can be developed together, ranging from student and lecturer exchanges and research collaboration to the development of new technologies that provide tangible benefits for the people of both nations,” said the Minister.

He encouraged Indonesian universities to be more active in building international networks and offering academic programmes capable of attracting foreign students.

Meanwhile, Indonesian Ambassador to Kazakhstan Mochamad Fadjroel Rachman stated that Kazakhstan places great emphasis on the development of higher education and research, including in advanced technology, artificial intelligence, and inter-institutional cooperation between the two countries.

Ambassador Fadjroel explained that dozens of Indonesian students are currently studying at top universities in Kazakhstan, including Nazarbayev University, which is recognised as one of the leading campuses in the Central Asian region. Several universities in both countries have also established partnerships through student and lecturer exchange programmes and research collaboration in various strategic fields.

Indonesia and Kazakhstan are exploring the strengthening of cooperation through a more structured memorandum of understanding (MoU) between relevant ministries and universities. This cooperation is expected to serve as an umbrella for various concrete programmes, including joint research, academic mobility, and human resource capacity building.
