Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology Opens Opportunities for Collaboration Among Private Universities to Enhance Quality
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Kemdiktisaintek) is opening opportunities for collaboration among private universities (PTS) with guidance as an effort to improve the quality of PTS in Indonesia. Director of Institutions at Kemdiktisaintek, Mukhamad Najib, stated that the planned scheme, termed a “partnership scheme”, is expected to encourage PTS to also enter the ranks of globally quality universities. “The partnership scheme involves superior PTS mentoring those below them. This is an inter-PTS partnership programme,” he said during the launch of the PP-PTS in Jakarta on Monday. Najib mentioned that this scheme allows PTS to mutually assist, cooperate, and collaborate to jointly enhance quality. “So, while PTS have certainly had periods where they must compete and rival each other, it doesn’t have to be competition forever. There are times when PTS must collaborate to improve the quality of higher education in Indonesia, including enhancing the quality of graduates,” Najib explained. According to him, the current number of new students in Indonesia cannot be fully accommodated by public universities (PTN). Therefore, strengthening the capacity of PTS is essential for equitable distribution and realising an inclusive and just higher education system. “This is also part of the government’s efforts to ensure that the quality of higher education is not only concentrated in certain regions but also develops more evenly throughout Indonesia,” stated Badri Munir Sukoco. It is known that Kemdiktisaintek has inaugurated the PP-PTS 2026 through two main schemes. First, Scheme A, namely Strengthening Learning Quality, targeted at PTS with small to medium capacity, focusing on improving the quality of the learning process through support for educational facilities and infrastructure. Second, Scheme B, namely Enhancing Competitiveness and Graduate Relevance, directed at PTS that already have greater capacity, focusing on strengthening specific institutional advantages as well as improving graduate relevance to the needs of the workforce and society.
