Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology Explores Educational Collaboration Potential with IABA
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Kemdiktisaintek) is exploring the potential for collaboration with the Indonesian Association of British Alumni (IABA), or the Association of Great Britain Alumni, to support human resource development (SDM) and the transformation of higher education in Indonesia. “We all know that scientists from foreign universities are also assets of our nation, with insights, networks, and experiences that are expected to contribute to accelerating Indonesia’s development,” said the Minister of Kemdiktisaintek in a statement in Jakarta on Tuesday. Minister Brian highlighted that countries such as Japan, South Korea, and China have advanced rapidly, in part by leveraging overseas graduates and the diaspora to build their nations. On the other hand, he also emphasised the importance of balancing the sending of students abroad with strengthening the quality of campuses domestically. He also encouraged the need for other inter-campus collaborations that involve capacity transfer for Indonesian universities, such as joint degrees, double degrees, professor mentorships, and other collaborative programmes. “The government is also exploring mentorship collaborations with top UK universities such as the University of Oxford, the University of Cambridge, and Imperial College London to strengthen the capacity of universities in Indonesia,” he stated. It is known that both parties have agreed to open avenues for follow-up actions and technical collaborations to support the strengthening of higher education in Indonesia. This aligns with the directives of the President of the Republic of Indonesia to develop Indonesian human resources to strengthen the education sector as support for national development.
