The Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Kemdiktisaintek) has invited PT Telkom to strengthen collaboration between industry and universities in developing research and innovation in artificial intelligence (AI), computing, and digital security.

In a statement in Jakarta on Thursday, Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Mendiktisaintek) Brian Yuliarto said that his ministry has research capacity relevant to the needs of strategic technology development, including AI, computing, and semiconductor-supporting technologies.

“Various research at universities is actually in line with needs, including Telkom’s of course. We have research on AI and semiconductors. So, we would be very pleased if the research could be aligned,” said Brian.

The minister emphasised the importance of matching the expertise held by universities with the real needs of industry.

According to him, one of the challenges that still needs to be bridged is how research can continue until it produces utilisation with commercial value.

“Indeed, our research often does not continue to the point of meeting needs with commercial value, but rather policy recommendations,” he said.

Brian expressed hope that strengthening the relationship between universities and industry would open space for research that is more relevant to strategic technology needs while also encouraging broader utilisation of research results.

It is known that Minister Brian Yuliarto received an audience with PT Telkom and its leadership on Tuesday (11/8). In the meeting, the discussion also highlighted the importance of downstreaming and commercialisation of research results.

The meeting also discussed Telkom’s support for Sekolah Garuda. PT Telkom directly expressed appreciation for the opportunity to support Sekolah Garuda in four locations and stated its readiness to provide broader support.
