Ministry of Health: 549 Healthcare Workers Have Received Measles Vaccination for Prevention
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) states that since it began on 10 April until Tuesday (14/4), 549 people have received 1 dose of measles-rubella (MR) immunisation, for preventing the disease among healthcare workers (nakes) and medical personnel (named).
The Head of the Bureau of Communication and Public Information of Kemenkes, Aji Muhawarman, in Jakarta on Friday, said the figure is from a total target of 262,299 healthcare workers and medical personnel in 14 priority provinces as well as 14,419 intern doctors in 38 provinces.
“Up to today, 18 provinces have started implementation and reported service results, namely Bali, Banten, Jakarta, West Java, Central Java, East Java, Jambi, Riau, North Sumatra, Lampung, West Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan, East Kalimantan, North Kalimantan, West Nusa Tenggara, South Sulawesi, Central Sulawesi, and Central Papua,” said Aji.
Regarding the vaccination provisions, he said that if there is a history of two doses of measles immunisation, it is not necessary to administer it. If there is a history of one dose, then one dose is given.
“If there is no immunisation history, two doses are given with a minimum interval of 28 days. Dose of 0.5 ml subcutaneously,” he stated.
He mentioned that the strategy for administering measles immunisation is regulated by each health service facility.
On that occasion, he explained that the number of measles cases from 2026 up to week 14 of 2026 was 16,912 cases.
“Cases rose sharply at the beginning of the year, peaking in the first week with 2,220 cases. After the fourth week, the weekly trend began to decline gradually, increased in the ninth week, and declined again until the fourteenth week, namely 169 cases,” he said.
To prevent contracting measles, they urged the public to implement a clean and healthy lifestyle, avoid crowds, and wear masks when engaging in activities in crowded areas.
“Medical personnel and healthcare workers always apply universal precautions appropriate when handling patients, using appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE),” he said.
He reminded to complete the measles immunisation status for babies and children, and to get it immediately if not yet, even if past the scheduled time.
Previously, the Ministry of Health reminded that healthcare workers and named are one of several groups vulnerable to measles, considering how often they handle patients with that condition.
