The Head of the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah Office for Situbondo Regency, Rif’an Junaidi, has confirmed that two pilgrims from the region have passed away in Makkah. The deceased have been identified as H Fathor Rahman, 58, and Hj Almi Massuya, 85.

Fathor Rahman, a resident of Mlandingan Kulon Village, passed away in his hotel on 29 May 2026, at approximately 17:00 Saudi Arabian time. According to Junaidi, Rahman complained of chest pains to his wife following prayers. His wife immediately summoned medical personnel, and although the Situbondo Hajj health team conducted an observation, he subsequently passed away; a heart attack is suspected as the cause of death.

The two bodies were given funeral prayers at the Masjidilharam, death certificates were issued, and the burials were carried out by Saudi Arabian Hajj officials.

Junaidi added that the remaining Situbondo pilgrims are currently performing Tawaf Ifadah, a mandatory pillar of the Hajj pilgrimage involving circling the Ka’bah in the Masjidilharam. A total of 997 pilgrims from Situbondo were departed for the Holy Land on 13 and 14 May 2026, and are scheduled to return to Indonesia on 24 June 2026. The Situbondo pilgrims are organised into flight groups 87, 88, 89, and 90, with groups 87 and 90 comprising pilgrims from the neighbouring Jember and Bondowoso regencies.
