Ministry of Hajj Prioritises Enhancing Security and Safety for Indonesian Hajj Pilgrims in 2026

The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah prioritises the security and safety of Indonesian Hajj pilgrims in 2026 when performing the fifth pillar of Islam. “We are focusing on security and safety from the journey until returning to the homeland,” explained Minister of Hajj and Umrah Mochamad Irfan Yusuf, alias Gus Irfan, quoted from Kontan on Wednesday (15/4/2026). Gus Irfan assured that the government is enhancing services for pilgrims to reach 100 percent compared to previous implementations. The Hajj pilgrimage will also be conducted on time according to the planned schedule, consistently with the determinations of the Saudi Arabian government. “So, as long as there is no word and no order from the Saudi Government, Insyaallah Indonesia will continue to carry out the Hajj,” explained Gus Irfan. This discourse cannot yet be discussed in detail because the implementation of the 2026 Hajj pilgrimage is the focus of the Ministry of Hajj. “I think, let’s concentrate first on the implementation of the Hajj pilgrimage. Especially this is the first for the Ministry of Hajj. Focus first so that the Hajj implementation runs well and successfully, that discourse should not disrupt the preparations that are already close,” explained Deputy Chairman of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) Kyai Cholil Nafis on Wednesday (15/4/2026). Therefore, it needs to be studied deeply, transparently, and considering the Hajj finances themselves. “This discourse has its good side, but it needs in-depth study, both in terms of regulations, justice, waiting list, and Hajj finances,” he said. Gus Irfan himself emphasised that if this idea is deemed to have many shortcomings, it will be closed and not implemented. He will take responsibility for the discourse that has caused a stir in the midst of Indonesian society. “If we are asked who is responsible, I am the one who first threw out the term war ticket,” he explained.
