Jakarta, 12 March 2026 – Indonesia’s Minister of Hajj and Umrah Mochamad Irfan Yusuf has assured that flight ticket prices for hajj departures in 2026 will not increase, despite global oil prices surging due to conflict in the Middle East.

Irfan stated that to date, airlines operating hajj flights have not submitted any price change requests to the government. “As of today, airlines have not submitted price changes because the contracts were already agreed upon some time ago,” Irfan said at the Indonesian House of Representatives building in Jakarta on Thursday, 12 March 2026.

He added that the government has also met with airline representatives, and during these meetings there was no discussion regarding increases in hajj flight tariffs.

Global oil prices rose sharply on Thursday, 12 March 2026, as markets focused on supply disruptions caused by the escalating conflict in the Middle East region. According to Bloomberg, Brent crude oil prices increased by as much as 7.9 per cent to 99.24 US dollars per barrel. Meanwhile, West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude was trading near 94 US dollars per barrel.

The oil price increases were triggered by disruptions to the strategic shipping route through the Strait of Hormuz, which is one of the world’s primary routes for energy distribution. This situation has forced several oil producers in the Gulf region to significantly reduce production.

Additionally, numerous vessels have been reported to have come under attack in the vicinity of this narrow waterway. This situation has further increased risks to global shipping activities and energy supply.

The Strait of Hormuz is affected and impacts the global economy, as it serves as a primary route for trade in important commodities, particularly oil and gas.
