Ministry of Hajj and Umrah urged to publish accredited Umrah travel agencies following Hanania Travel case

House of Representatives Commission VIII member Hidayat Nur Wahid (HNW) has urged the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah to publish a list of accredited Umrah travel agencies (PPIU) following the Hanania Travel case.

HNW said an accredited PPIU list is crucial for the public to have an official reference before selecting an Umrah travel agency.

“The state must provide official and easily accessible information about registered, compliant, and accredited PPIUs amid numerous influencer advertisements and testimonials,” HNW stated on Monday (1 June 2026).

“Thus, the public will have greater assurance before entrusting their funds and religious duties to specific providers,” he added.

Under the Hajj and Umrah Law, PPIUs are required to protect pilgrims before departure, during their stay in Saudi Arabia, and upon return to Indonesia.

“Pilgrims reporting this case should not feel isolated or intimidated. They are exercising rights guaranteed by law, and the state must protect them,” HNW said.

He explained that the primary purpose of the Hajj and Umrah Law is to provide stronger protection for pilgrims.

“The new law imposes clearer obligations on the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah while strengthening pilgrims’ rights to protection, quality service, and clear complaint mechanisms,” said the MPR Vice Chairman.

Jakarta Metropolitan Police have named Ahmad Syah Farhan, Director of PT Khazanah Tamma Internasional (Hanania Group), as a suspect in a suspected fraud and embezzlement case involving Umrah trips that harmed hundreds of prospective pilgrims.

The suspect designation followed investigators finding sufficient evidence during the probe.

In addition to being named a suspect, Farhan has been detained at Jakarta Metropolitan Police’s detention facility.

To date, Jakarta Metropolitan Police have received two police reports regarding alleged Umrah trip fraud by Hanania Group.

Victims are said to have paid for Umrah packages to Hanania Group but were not sent on the trip as scheduled.

Jakarta Metropolitan Police also received another report from a complainant identified as NN regarding Umrah travel for two people.

In the report, the victim paid approximately Rp78.8 million for an Umrah package but was not sent on the trip as scheduled by Hanania Travel.
