Ministry of Hajj and Umrah Responds to Accident Involving Indonesian Hajj Pilgrims in Madinah

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - The Republic of Indonesia’s Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has spoken out regarding the bus accident involving Indonesian hajj pilgrims in Madinah on 28 April 2026 at 10.30 Saudi Arabia Time (WAS).

The Head of the Public Relations Bureau of Kemenhaj, Moh. Hasan Afandi, stated that the accident involved pilgrims from flight groups SUB-02 and JKS-01. Based on field reports, seven pilgrims from JKS-01, two from SUB-02, and one official from the Hajj and Umrah Worship Guidance Group (KBIHU) sustained minor injuries.

“All affected pilgrims have received medical treatment and assistance from officials. Currently, one pilgrim named Sri Sugi Hartini (60) is still undergoing treatment at Al Hayyat Hospital in Madinah,” Hasan said in his official statement, quoted on Thursday (30/4/2026).

Kemenhaj has assured that the condition of the pilgrims is being intensively monitored, and all medical and logistical needs are being well fulfilled. Ongoing assistance is also being provided to ensure the comfort and safety of the pilgrims during their recovery period.

Furthermore, Hasan reaffirmed Kemenhaj’s commitment to maintaining order and the quality of hajj worship services, including the role of KBIHU in the field. He emphasised the importance of active coordination between KBIHU and government officials.

“All KBIHU are obliged to coordinate with officials, comply with applicable regulations, and prioritise pilgrim safety in every activity,” he stressed.

He explained that the government has also facilitated pilgrimage activities to several worship sites in Madinah as part of pilgrim services, including Masjid Quba, Masjid Qiblatain, and Jabal Uhud. All these activities are carried out in a coordinated manner and under official supervision.

Hasan once again reminded that there should be no activities outside of worship interests that could harm pilgrims, including unauthorised additional collections.

“We emphasise that there should be no offers outside of worship interests, no additional collections, and all activities must be coordinated with official personnel. If violated, we will not hesitate to impose strict sanctions up to revocation of permits,” Hasan concluded.
