The government, through the Ministry of Forestry (Kemenhut), is seriously promoting TNBTS as a world-class tourism destination. The Bromo area is highlighted as one of the main priorities in the programme to develop Indonesia’s flagship national parks. Quoting ANTARA on Tuesday (14/4/26), the Director General of Natural Resources and Ecosystem Conservation (KSDAE) of the Ministry of Forestry, Satyawan Pudyatmoko, emphasised that the government is targeting several national parks to reach international level, with Bromo being one of the most prominent. “The government has a target to turn several national parks in Indonesia into world-class areas, and Bromo Tengger Semeru is one of the main priorities,” he stated during the groundbreaking of the Tengger Caldera Ring Trail (JLKT), quoting ANTARA on Monday (13/4/26). Out of a total of 57 national parks in Indonesia, several have been selected for more serious development to compete on the global stage. “We are targeting some of them to become world-class. TNBTS is one of the highlighted ones,” he added. One of the key projects in this strategy is the construction of the JLKT. This project encompasses ecological protection, conservation of flora and fauna, water resource management, and economic empowerment of the surrounding communities. According to Satyawan, JLKT serves as an important instrument to align various interests in the Bromo area. From nature conservation to improving local community welfare, all are expected to run in tandem. Management based on local wisdom is the main principle so that Bromo retains its distinctive character in the eyes of the world. “We hope the construction of JLKT becomes the initial step in transforming the Bromo tourism area towards sustainable management,” said Satyawan.
