The Director General of KSDAE, Satyawan Pudyatmoko, conducted a working visit to the Megamendung Landscape, Bogor Regency, to inaugurate the Paseban Aviary Valley and the Timor Deer Breeding Centre, and to release two Javan eagles (Nisaetus bartelsi) on Tuesday, 9 June 2026.

This activity is part of an effort to strengthen landscape-based conservation, which integrates ecosystem restoration, biodiversity protection, environmental education, research, and community empowerment.

The two Javan eagles released were a female named Agni and a male named Beta. The Javan eagle is an endemic species of Java and is one of Indonesia’s priority conservation species, serving as a vital indicator of the health of Java’s mountain forest ecosystems.

Agni, from the Kamojang Eagle Conservation Centre (PKEK), and Beta, from the Cikananga Conservation Foundation (YCKT), underwent rehabilitation, habituation, and technical evaluation processes for approximately two years and six months before being declared fit to return to their natural habitat.

To support post-release monitoring, these individuals are equipped with GPS trackers, allowing conservation teams to monitor their movement, habitat use, and adaptation success in the wild.

The Ministry of Forestry expressed its appreciation to PKEK and YCKT for their contributions to supporting Javan eagle conservation through animal rescue, rehabilitation, and increasing the success rates of reintroduction.

The success of wildlife release is determined not only by the success of rehabilitation and breeding but also by habitat readiness and the support of surrounding communities.

Therefore, the involvement of local governments, communities, academics, the business world, and all stakeholders is a crucial factor in maintaining habitats and preventing various threats to wildlife, including poaching.

In addition to the release of the Javan eagles, the Director General of KSDAE also inaugurated the Paseban Aviary Valley, which has been developed as a non-commercial ex-situ conservation facility to support the conservation of Indonesian birds through environmental education, research, responsible breeding, and reintroduction to natural habitats.

Satyawan conveyed the directives of the Minister of Forestry, Raja Juli Antoni, and expressed appreciation to the Paseban Foundation, West Java BBKSDA, Perum Perhutani, conservation institutions, local governments, academics, the community, and various parties who have demonstrated a real commitment to preserving nature in the Megamendung Landscape.
