Ministry of Forestry Completes 8 Homes for Aceh Tamiang Flood Victims
The Ministry of Forestry (Kemenhut) is continuing post-disaster recovery efforts following floods and landslides in Aceh Tamiang Regency, Aceh. The Directorate General of Forestry Law Enforcement (Ditjen Gakkum Kehutanan), together with the Indonesian Forest Police Association (IPKI), has completed the construction of eight housing units for affected residents in Sekumur Village, Sekerak District. All of the homes have now been occupied by families who lost their dwellings due to the disaster.
Director General of Forestry Law Enforcement Dwi Januanto Nugroho stated that the construction of the houses is part of the Forest Police’s commitment to assist the community, beyond their duty of protecting forest areas. “Budhi Bhakti Wirawana teaches us that the dedication of the Forest Police does not stop at guarding forest areas. When communities face disasters, these values guide us to be present, work together, and provide tangible benefits. Protecting the forest essentially means protecting the lives of the people who depend on it,” Dwi said, as quoted from the ministry’s official website on Friday, 24 July 2026.
The housing programme is part of a social action initiative by the Ministry of Forestry, which aligns with Forestry Minister Raja Juli Antoni’s directive for forestry policies to deliver direct benefits to the public. The handover of the eight units was carried out symbolically by Dwi Januanto Nugroho to the Datok of Sekumur Village. The event was also coupled with technical guidance on empowering Fire Care Communities (Masyarakat Peduli Api/MPA), organised by the Directorate General of Forestry Law Enforcement.
Also in attendance was Member of Commission IV of the House of Representatives and Coordinator of the Galapana Task Force for Disaster Recovery, T.A. Khalid, who encouraged the community to accelerate the recovery process by strengthening the agriculture, forestry, and fisheries sectors. Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Indonesian Forest Police Association (IPKI), Sustyo Iriyono, said the construction of the eight houses was the result of mutual cooperation among Forest Police members from various regions across Indonesia. “These homes were built thanks to the spirit of togetherness of the Forest Police family. Every contribution from members is part of a collective effort to help our brothers and sisters in Aceh Tamiang. This is the meaning of Budhi Bhakti Wirawana that we realise through concrete action,” he said.
