Ministry of Environment Seals Hazardous Waste Management Company in Tangerang

The Ministry of Environment of the Republic of Indonesia has sealed PT Beringin Petroleum Energy, a company managing hazardous and toxic waste (B3) in the form of used oil without an official permit, in Panongan District, Tangerang Regency, Banten. “The activity at this company involves processing used oil into Chemical Diesel Oil. Used oils from several related business sectors are processed here using a very simple process,” said Deputy for Environmental Law Enforcement at the Ministry of Environment, Inspector General of Police Rizal Irawan, in Tangerang on Saturday. He stated that the waste management company is suspected of violating provisions related to environmental, technical approvals and causing air, soil, and water pollution in the field of B3 waste management. Rizal revealed that following these findings, the company will be subject to Article 103 and/or Article 104 of Law Number 32 of 2009 concerning Environmental Protection and Management. “So I have conveyed to the owner to cease all activities immediately. I have brought the relevant directors, including the Director of Criminal Enforcement, Civil Enforcement, as well as those from administrative sanctions and supervisory roles in this enforcement action,” he said. He also noted that based on field observations, the company is known to have been operating for a long time. It temporarily ceased operations due to the COVID-19 pandemic but resumed activities from 2022 until 2026. “Regarding air pollution, we can also see two chimneys without air pollution control devices. As a result, the combustion by-products from this CDO process are directly discharged into the air, water, and soil,” he explained. In this matter, Rizal added that the Government, through his Ministry, will continue to conduct supervision and take firm action against industries that neglect environmental protection due to the impact of their activities. “Likewise, industries that cause pollution and damage the environment will certainly be dealt with,” he said.
