Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Environment (LH) Hanif Faisol Nurofiq stated that his ministry is still awaiting the results of laboratory tests related to the alleged pesticide contamination case in the Cisadane River to ensure its current water quality standards.

“Regarding the Cisadane River, we are still waiting for the lab results related to the alleged contamination, because this pesticide lab is under the supervision of the Ministry of Agriculture,” said Minister of LH/Head of the Environmental Control Agency (BPLH) Hanif Faisol Nurofiq, answering questions from reporters after the 2026 National Coordination Meeting on Waste Management in Jakarta, Wednesday.

He explained that the Ministry of Environment (KLH) itself does not yet have a laboratory to fully capture the parameters related to pesticide contamination. According to him, the results of the laboratory tests will only be released today.

Previously, the Minister of LH stated that he had prepared a lawsuit against PT Biotek Saranatama as the owner of the pesticide storage warehouse suspected of polluting the Cisadane River, covering an area of approximately 22.5 kilometers.

The pollution affects the areas of South Tangerang, Tangerang, and Tangerang Regency in Banten, resulting in the death of fish in the Jaletreng River to the Cisadane River.

The Environmental Agency (DLH) of Tangerang City, Banten, in a statement on Tuesday (February 17) confirmed that the water quality of the Cisadane River has met the quality standards, based on the results of laboratory tests.

However, the sterilization and monitoring process continues to be carried out by the Tangerang City DLH to this day. Even though the Cisadane River has shown signs of recovery.

In addition, the KLH is also investigating the case of the emergence of yellowish-brown smoke allegedly originating from a gas leak at the PT Vopak Terminal Merak storage location in Cilegon.

“We will file a civil lawsuit in the Cisadane case as well as the Vopak case involving the orange gas in Cilegon,” said Hanif Faisol Nurofiq.
