Ministry of Environment and Forestry Prepares to Finalise Mangrove Ecosystem Protection Plan Document
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Environment and Forestry or the Environment Control Agency states that it is finalising the National Plan for the Protection and Management of Mangrove Ecosystems (RPPEM) document. Environment Minister Jumhur Hidayat said the roadmap is ready to apply for the next 30 years for national mangrove ecosystem management, which will also be used as a basis by local governments in preparing RPPEM at the provincial and regency/city levels. “Currently, we are finalising the national mangrove ecosystem protection and management plan document. This is a major roadmap for the next 30 years in national mangrove ecosystem management and will later be used as a basis by local governments,” said Jumhur during an event titled Launching of the Kelana Programme and Screening of Keeping the Roots of the Nation: Indonesia’s Mangroves for the World in Central Jakarta on Wednesday. Furthermore, he said the preparation of the national RPPEM is one of their commitments to strengthen the legal and data foundation related to the sustainability of mangrove ecosystems. This regulation, he continued, is the state’s commitment to protect, restore, and manage mangrove ecosystems sustainably. In addition, through Ministerial Decree LH/Head of BPLH No. 3438 of 2025, which has established the 2025 National Mangrove Map as a single spatial data reference. “This means there should be no more data differences. We know where our mangroves are, their condition, and where we need to plant,” he emphasised. They hope these documents can become technical instruments that can mobilise various related parties in ensuring the continuity of mangrove ecosystems. “Let us agree on one thing, we prepare regulations and resources, you bring innovation. We guard the policies, you guard the actions on the ground. True change is born from small steps taken consistently in each region,” he said.
