Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources Decides Electricity Tariffs Will Not Increase
The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) has determined that electricity tariffs for the second quarter (April-June) 2026 will remain unchanged. ESDM justified the policy decision to maintain consumer purchasing power.
βThe public need not worry as the electricity tariffs for the second quarter of 2026 remain fixed. This determination was made to protect consumer purchasing power ahead of Eid al-Fitr following calculations of various macroeconomic parameters,β said Acting Director General of Electricity at ESDM Tri Winarno.
In accordance with ESDM Ministerial Regulation Number 7 of 2024 on Electricity Tariffs provided by PT PLN (Persero), the evaluation of electricity tariff adjustments for 13 non-subsidised customer categories is conducted every three months based on changes in realised macroeconomic parameters. These parameters include the rupiah exchange rate against the US dollar, the Indonesian Crude Price (ICP), inflation, and the Coal Benchmark Price (HBA).
For the second quarter 2026 tariff determination, the macroeconomic parameters used were based on actual figures from November 2025 to January 2026. These included a rupiah exchange rate of Rp 16,743.46 per US dollar, ICP of US$62.78 per barrel, inflation of 0.22 per cent, and HBA of US$70 per ton in accordance with coal DMO policy.
Based on calculations of these parameters, the electricity tariff formula could potentially have changed. However, to maintain industrial competitiveness, consumer purchasing power, and national economic stability amid global conditions, the government decided that electricity tariffs would remain unchanged. The 25 subsidised customer categories also remain unchanged.
Additionally, ESDM has encouraged PT PLN to continue maintaining reliable electricity supply, improving service quality to customers, and optimising operational efficiency to ensure reliable and sustainable electricity provision.
