Jakarta (ANTARA) - The National Centre for Student Achievements (Puspresnas) of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology is once again strengthening preparations for students to refine and select potential Indonesian delegates to compete in the International Geography Olympiad (iGeo) through the Phase II iGeo Training Programme.

The iGeo, an annual international geography competition for upper secondary school students, will be held in Istanbul, Turkey, from 7 to 11 August 2026.

Head of Puspresnas of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology, Maria Veronica Irene Herdjiono, stated in Jakarta on Thursday that the training aims to provide sustainable talent development for winners of the National Science Olympiad (OSN), particularly in the geography category.

“We want to ensure that the students receive the best facilitation up to the international stage. So, not only excelling academically, but also ready to face the iGeo competition,” said Irene.

She explained that the Phase II iGeo Training also provides motivation to the participants.

Meanwhile, for participants who do not qualify, Irene said the activity can serve as valuable experience for achieving other successes in the future.

One participant from SMA Negeri 2 Kota Tangerang Selatan, Luminaire Tribuana Celmira, felt grateful for the opportunity to join this training.

“I am grateful to have passed Phase I Training. In this Phase II Training, it is much denser and more exhausting because my friends and I directly conducted fieldwork,” said Luminaire.

She hopes that by participating in this training programme, it will sharpen her abilities to become better, especially in geography.

“Thank you to the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology and Puspresnas for organising the iGeo training. I hope this training can deepen our knowledge and experience in geography,” she said.
