The Secretary of the Language Development and Guidance Agency at the Ministry of Education and Culture, Ganjar Harimansyah, said at Gambir Station in Jakarta on Monday that the “Fun Reading Migration” programme aims to encourage reading habits amongst travellers.

The programme, held at the central Jakarta station, ran for two days from Monday 16 March to Tuesday 17 March. Travellers could obtain free books by requesting them from volunteers stationed at the entrance to the South Hall of Gambir Station.

Harimansyah expressed hope that travellers would read books during their journey home. “In addition to receiving physical books at no cost, the public can also access digital content through budi.kemendikdasmen.go.id, which contains more than 3,000 books available for free reading,” he stated.

The programme distributed 2,400 books specifically targeted at children from kindergarten to junior secondary school, with diverse titles and genres. Beyond book distribution, the initiative included aloud reading sessions, book reviews, storytelling, and colouring activities.

“We hope the journey home becomes more enjoyable with this reading programme,” Harimansyah concluded.
