Jakarta — The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education (Kemendikdasmen) has released an official circular on the early Ramadan 2026 school holidays. The circular states that there will be three days of learning activities conducted outside educational institutions, effectively constituting an early fasting holiday. In addition, the circular sets out the school learning schedule during the fasting month and the post-Ramadan holiday schedule, which extends into the Eid al-Fitr break.

The school holiday and learning schedule during Ramadan 2026 is set out in a Joint Circular Letter of the Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, the Minister of Religious Affairs, and the Minister of Home Affairs, numbered 5 of 2026, 2 of 2026, and 400.1/857/SJ respectively, concerning Learning during the Month of Ramadan 1447 Hijriah/2026 CE.

The key points are as follows:

  1. On 18, 19, 20, and 21 February 2026, learning activities shall be conducted independently within the family environment, places of worship, and the community, in accordance with assignments from schools, madrasahs, early childhood education institutions, and religious education institutions.

  2. Independent learning activities during Ramadan should not burden students with excessive homework or projects, particularly those requiring significant additional costs or intensive use of devices and the internet. Where assignments are given, they should be simple, enjoyable, completable with family, and should not impose a financial burden on parents. Outputs may take the form of journals or Ramadan pocket books, while minimising internet usage.

  3. From 23 February 2026 to 14 March 2026, learning activities shall be conducted at schools, madrasahs, early childhood education institutions, and religious education institutions. During Ramadan, schools are also encouraged to organise beneficial activities to strengthen faith, noble character, leadership, and social engagement. For Muslim students, recommended activities include Quran recitation, short Islamic boarding programmes, Islamic studies, and other faith-building activities. For students of other faiths, spiritual guidance and religious activities in accordance with their respective beliefs are recommended.

  4. The dates of 16, 17, 18, 19, and 20 March 2026, as well as 23, 24, 25, 26, and 27 March 2026, constitute the joint Eid al-Fitr holiday for all educational institutions. During this period, students are encouraged to visit family and engage with the community to strengthen bonds of brotherhood and unity.

  5. Learning activities at educational institutions shall resume on 30 March 2026.

Based on the circular, the following is a summary of the holiday and school attendance schedule during Ramadan 2026:
