Ministry of Defence strengthens regional veteran data administration
The Veteran Centre of the National Reserve Component (Bacadnas) at the Ministry of Defence is strengthening the administrative management and verification of veteran data in the regions to ensure that the fulfilment of their rights is carried out in accordance with regulations and precisely targeted.
“The purpose of this veteran administration and data verification workshop is, firstly, to make veteran administration better and smoother,” said Brigadier General TNI Asep Tardiyana Wachgi, Head of the Bacadnas Veteran Centre, at the workshop in Palu on Wednesday.
He said that the task of recording and collecting veteran data at the regional level is currently carried out by the Personnel Staff of the Regional Military Command (Spersdam) through the Senior Assistance Officer for Separation and Distribution of Veterans and Reserves (Pabandya Sahlurvetcad) at the Military Regional Command (Kodam) level and the Personnel Section Officer (Pasipers) of the District Military Command (Kodim) at the regency/city level.
This is due to the organisational restructuring through the liquidation of the Kodam Veterans and Reserves Administration Development Agency (Babinminvetcaddam) based on Army Chief of Staff Regulation Number 1 of 2026, which transferred the function of veteran administration development to territorial units.
He therefore assessed that the workshop is important to provide technical guidance so that every personnel member in the new units can understand the mechanism for processing prospective veterans accurately and precisely.
“We must ensure that this transfer of functions does not in any way hinder services to the nation’s fighters, so that the fighting spirit of veterans continues to fly high without being disrupted by the dynamics of bureaucratic change,” he said.
Asep said the workshop also aims to ensure that veterans’ rights, especially in the regions, can be granted in accordance with applicable regulations.
He mentioned a number of veteran rights, including the Medal of Honour, Veteran Allowance, Honour Fund, as well as certain rights such as health insurance and technical assistance.
According to him, there are still many veterans who have not been recorded, so data collection needs to be improved through searching and tracing data at the territorial level.
For this reason, Asep said, data verification is important to ensure that various veteran rights are truly received by those who are entitled to them.
“There are still many veterans who have not been recorded. So with this meeting, veteran data should be sought more and improved further,” he said.
He also encouraged regional governments and all relevant stakeholders to play an active role in assisting the data collection process and the completion of veterans’ administration.
“With this workshop, stakeholders related to veteran rights, especially in the regions, must be more active. Because there are also fighters who do not have the required documents. This can be done, as long as they truly fought,” he said.
Bacadnas recorded that there are 472 veterans in Central Sulawesi, with 31 of them in Palu City.
The veteran administration and data verification workshop was attended by personnel from Kodim units in Central Sulawesi and West Sulawesi as part of strengthening understanding of the mechanisms for data collection and administrative processing of prospective veterans at the territorial level.
