Ministry of Defence Mourns Death of Former Defence Minister Ryamizard Ryacudu: Dedication to Be Remembered
Former Defence Minister Ryamizard Ryacudu has passed away. The Ministry of Defence (Kemhan) has expressed condolences.
“The Republic of Indonesia Ministry of Defence extends deepest condolences on the passing of General TNI (Retired) Ryamizard Ryacudu, Defence Minister from 2014 to 2019,” Kemhan stated on its Instagram account @kemhanri, as observed on Sunday (31 May 2026).
Kemhan remembered Ryamizard as a soldier, leader, and statesman who dedicated his entire life to the nation.
“His dedication, steadfastness, and contributions to strengthening the national defence system form part of a legacy of service that will continue to be remembered and inspire future generations in safeguarding Indonesia’s sovereignty,” the ministry said.
Kemhan offered prayers for Ryamizard and his family. “May Allah SWT bestow His mercy and forgiveness, place the late general in the best of places, and grant strength, patience, and acceptance to the bereaved family,” it added.
The funeral procession has departed from RSPAD Gatot Soebroto Hospital at 15:55 WIB, escorted by several vehicles. The body will be laid to rest at his family home in Cikeas, Bogor.
Previously, Kemhan’s Information Chief Brigadier General Rico Ricardo Sirait confirmed Ryamizard died at 14:03 WIB at RSPAD in Central Jakarta. “We have received news of the passing of General TNI (Retired) Ryamizard Ryacudu today,” he said.
