The Ministry of Defence (Kemhan) has confirmed that two TNI soldiers currently carrying out the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) peacekeeping mission in Lebanon have died due to the increased intensity of fighting in the area.

Previously, on 29 March, one TNI soldier fell and several others were injured as a result of the conflict impacts in the operational area.

“The latest developments received on 30 March 2026 indicate another incident in southern Lebanon that affected TNI Task Force personnel who were carrying out escort duties to support UNIFIL operational activities,” said Brigadier General Rico Ricardo Sirait, Head of Information at the Ministry of Defence Secretariat General, in a written statement on Tuesday (31/3).

Rico explained that in the incident, two TNI soldiers were reported killed, while two others suffered serious injuries.

The injured soldiers are currently receiving intensive medical treatment at a healthcare facility in Beirut.

“The incident occurred amid the rising intensity of fighting in the area, and to date, the exact cause of the event is still under investigation by UNIFIL according to the applicable mechanisms,” he stated.

Rico said the Ministry of Defence and TNI continue to coordinate closely with UNIFIL headquarters to ensure the safety of all personnel and to guarantee the best handling for the victims.

Evacuation and medical treatment measures have also been carried out quickly in accordance with United Nations operational procedures.

Kemhan emphasised that the safety of peacekeeping forces must be the top priority.

“All parties involved in the conflict are urged to respect international humanitarian law and ensure the security of peacekeeping personnel. Indonesia remains committed to actively contributing to maintaining world peace and supporting regional stability through participation in UN peacekeeping missions,” he said.
