Ministry of Culture supports JWC to strengthen national film ecosystem

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Culture Fadli Zon stated that the Ministry of Culture will support strengthening Indonesia’s film ecosystem, including through the Jakarta World Cinema (JWC) event.

During a meeting with JWC organisers, the Minister urged Indonesian film talents to collaborate with senior filmmakers. “We hope talents from all regions will get opportunities to attend major festivals such as Cannes,” Fadli said in a statement from Jakarta on Wednesday.

He also noted that the ministry’s screenplay writing competition could be better marketed, for instance through film markets, with the best entries eligible for matching funds to produce films.

JWC’s Director of Public Affairs, Razka Robby Ertanto, said they have implemented a continuous mentorship scheme for short film competition winners by developing them into feature film projects.

Additionally, funding mechanisms through the Dana Indonesiaraya matching fund were discussed, with the Minister adding that film production financing could be a collaborative effort between government and industry.

The Ministry of Culture welcomes efforts to strengthen the national film ecosystem through collaboration with various parties, particularly filmmakers and private sector entities.

This will be achieved through various film-related initiatives, including talent development, financing, distribution, and international networking expansion, with the aim of boosting Indonesia’s global film competitiveness.
