Representatives from the Ministry of Creative Economy and Luat Sihombing, Director of Games at the Ministry, warmly welcomed the hosting of the PUBG Mobile Global Open (PMGO) 2026 Season 1 Main Event at the Senayan Tennis Indoor, Jakarta, on Saturday. Luat stated that esports activities such as this significantly drive the creative economy by involving national industry players. “PUBG is a partner that can be collaborated with; therefore, our effort is to find IPs that can truly be paired with the global scale of PUBG,” said Luat Sihombing during a press conference in Jakarta.

Looking ahead, Luat did not rule out the possibility of the Ministry involving other regional governments that possess the potential to host international-scale events like PMGO 20226. “That is why we work closely with regional governments, including Jakarta. Jakarta provides the space to host such activities,” Luat added.

PMGO 2026 features a total of 32 teams from various countries competing for a total prize pool of 500,000 US dollars. This edition of PMGO offers more than just world-class PUBG Mobile matches; it also provides an esports festival experience for fans. Around the arena, visitors can enjoy booths from micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the food, beverage, and fashion sectors, interactive PUBG MOBILE-themed installations, and various community activities with exclusive prizes and souvenirs.

Through this series of activities, organisers hope that PMGO 2026 can demonstrate that the esports ecosystem is closely connected to culture, creativity, and other economic sectors. The presence of thousands of spectators at the Senayan Tennis Indoor, alongside online viewers from various countries, is expected to further solidify Indonesia’s role on the global esports map, while paving the way for more local talent to pursue professional careers in the industry.
