Minister of Cooperatives Ferry Juliantono has stated that the Ministry of Cooperatives is prepared to provide training modules for 30,000 managers of Red and White Village/Urban Ward Cooperatives (Kopdes Merah Putih). “We in the Ministry of Cooperatives have been requested to provide training modules for the managers who, after passing the selection process, will be equipped first with knowledge about cooperatives themselves, and second with managerial capabilities,” said Ferry in Jakarta on Monday. He explained that these 30,000 managers of Red and White Village/Urban Ward Cooperatives will have managerial responsibilities for handling all types of activities in the Kopdes Merah Putih. The outlets of Kopdes Merah Putih include grocery stores, village pharmacies and clinics, savings and loan units, cooperative offices, cold storage, logistics outlets, and one outlet tailored to the local area’s potential needs. “The hope is that these Kopdes Merah Putih managers will have adequate entrepreneurial capabilities,” Ferry stated. He further noted that, in addition to the managers, there will be human resources to assist them, such as in finance, cashiering, driving, and security personnel, among others. “We also hope to involve the existing boards of Red and White Village/Urban Ward Cooperatives. It has already been decided in the Coordinating Ministry for Food and then also to open opportunities for beneficiaries in villages and urban wards to become human resources to support the operational activities of Kopdes Merah Putih,” he added.
