JAKARTA (ANTARA) – The Ministry of Communications and Digital stated on Thursday night that telecommunications services in Sumatra have been fully restored following the recent blackout in the region. ‘The recovery rate has remained at 100% since achieving full recovery at 00:00 WIB on 28 May 2026 and has remained stable until 09:00 WIB,’ the ministry said in a statement on Thursday in Jakarta. The ministry confirmed that since 09:00 WIB on Thursday, telecommunications services in Sumatra have been operating stably, with base transceiver station (BTS) towers functioning normally and no new or additional disruptions reported. The Ministry of Communications and Digital confirmed that the handling of telecommunications disruptions caused by the power outage in Sumatra has been concluded. The peak of the telecommunications disruptions occurred at 00:00 WIB on Sunday (24 May) when 10,713 sites across 10 provinces and 142 regencies and cities in Sumatra went offline. PT PLN (Persero) stated on Sunday (24 May) that the power system in Sumatra had returned to normal after a total blackout on Friday (22 May). PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo said the recovery process was carried out intensively from the onset of the disruption. The Sumatran power system was disrupted because most of the electricity in northern Sumatra is supplied from southern Sumatra.
