Ministry of Communication and Digital Requests Rp3.23 Trillion Budget Increase to Develop Digital Infrastructure
The Ministry of Communication and Digital (Kemkomdigi) has proposed a budget increase of Rp3.23 trillion to implement various programmes in 2027.
Kemkomdigi Secretary-General Ismail explained that the budget ceiling set for the ministry for the 2027 fiscal year is Rp11.515 trillion, whereas the actual budgetary requirement is Rp14.753 trillion.
“From the established budget ceiling of Rp11.5 trillion, Kemkomdigues is facing a budget deficit of Rp3.23 trillion,” said Ismail during a working meeting with Commission I of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) at the Parliament Complex, Jakarta, on Tuesday, 1 September 2026.
He noted that the indicative budget ceiling for Komdigi was originally Rp6.8 trillion, which then received an additional approximately Rp4.6 trillion, bringing the total budget ceiling to Rp11.515 trillion.
Ismail stated that the additional budget would be allocated, among other things, to the Digital Infrastructure Development and Strengthening programme. This programme previously had an indicative ceiling of Rp5.22 trillion. Following an additional Rp1.25 trillion, its ceiling has increased to Rp6.47 trillion.
Furthermore, the programme for the Development and Strengthening of the Digital Ecosystem and Space has also received a budget increase. Originally, this programme had an indicative ceiling of Rp126 billion; after receiving an additional Rp2.823 trillion, the ceiling has risen to Rp2.958 trillion.
Meanwhile, the Public Communication and Media programme has an indicative ceiling of Rp20 billion for non-operational needs and has not yet received any additional budget beyond what has been established.
Ismail explained that the Rp3.23 trillion budget increase will be allocated to various needs, ranging from operational expenditure to national priority programmes.
Ismail detailed that an additional Rp258 billion is required for operational needs within the Secretariat-General, the Inspectorate-General, and other Echelon I units. Additionally, Kemkomdigi requires Rp1.097 trillion to support national priority work programmes, which include BAKTI infrastructure, the digital government technology ecosystem, digital space supervision, the Human Resources Development Agency (BPSDM), and the Directorate General of Public Communication and Media.
Furthermore, Kemkomdigi requires Rp1.48 trillion for national priority programmes already established in the Strategic Plan (Renstra). This includes additional budget requirements for the Indonesian Broadcasting Commission (KPI), the Central Public Information Commission (PPID), and the Press Council.
“The Central Information Commission requires Rp32.5 billion, the Indonesian Broadcasting Commission requires Rp49.59 billion, and the Press Council requires Rp38.9 billion,” said Ismail.
