Ministry of Communication and Digital: Removal of Pejompongan Violence Video is the Responsibility of Electronic System Providers

The Ministry of Communication and Discretion (Kemkomdigi) has emphasised that it did not take down content featuring a video of a violent act against a resident in Pejompongan, Central Jakarta, which circulated on social media on Thursday (27/8) night.

Safriansyah Yanwar Rosyadi, Director of Digital Space Control at Kemkomdigi, stated that the handling of video content containing elements of violence falls under the authority of Electronic System Providers (PSE), based on the standards and community guidelines they maintain.

“They have standards whereby, regarding content involving violence or sadistic content, they can perform take-downs independently,” he said when met at the Parliament Complex, Jakarta, on Tuesday.

He emphasised that the government did not request the removal of the video or any content containing real facts or events.

“We, from the government, do not request the removal of content that contains actual facts or real news. We are not performing a take-down because that is the nature of the information,” said Safriansyah.

He viewed this as evidence that there is no government effort to eliminate or obscure evidence related to the incident.

“The videos are still there; we can still see them. Therefore, we did not request a take-down of the video. It is purely up to the respective platforms,” added Fifi.

It is known that mirror trader Bambang Setiyawan (59) passed away after leaving his house in the Pejompongan area, Central Jakarta, during a period of unrest on Thursday (27/8) night.

Bambang was subsequently buried on Friday (28/8), following Friday prayers, in the Kemanggisan Pulo area, West Jakarta.

Previously, local government officials, including the sub-district head, village head, and community own-defence personnel (Babinsa), had visited the family to check on their condition following the incident.
