Jakarta - The Ministry of Communication and Digital (Kemkomdigi) states that artificial intelligence (AI) and 5G connectivity are accelerators of digital transformation whose growth must be maintained to realise the Golden Indonesia 2045 Vision. Director General of Digital Infrastructure at Kemkomdigi, Wayan Toni Supriyanto, said that to effectively serve as accelerators, AI and 5G must be integrated so that access to renewable technologies becomes more open and facilitates the creation of innovations as national solutions. “The integration of 5G and AI will give birth to various new business models and accelerate digital transformation in both the public sector and industry,” Wayan said during a discussion forum in Jakarta on Wednesday. Wayan stated that 5G connectivity in this all-digital era is the main foundation for other technologies to develop. Some of the innovations mentioned include those that have become important solutions in many countries, such as Industry 4.0, digital health services, and smart cities. Meanwhile, for AI, its popularity in global society has only developed in recent years, but this technology has proven capable of managing data as a basis for decision-making, improving work efficiency, and creating real solutions, especially in the digital ecosystem. Therefore, as a long-term strategy in future digital infrastructure, Kemkomdigi will ensure that both technologies receive a more optimal allocation of national development. To expand 5G coverage, Kemkomdigi will reorganise and optimise the frequency spectrum better so that fast internet connectivity can become more widespread. Kemkomdigi also plans to strengthen the governance of the data centre ecosystem in Indonesia by ensuring that industry players continue to maintain national data sovereignty. “Data centres are no longer just data storage facilities, but have become the backbone of the digital economy and the main foundation for AI development,” he said. According to Wayan, the digital talent being prepared now is no longer limited to the ability to use technology but also to create innovations, especially in the fields of AI, data, and digital networks. “The government through Komdigi continues to promote various digital talent development programmes through training, reskilling, and collaboration with industry and educational institutions. Our target is clear. Indonesia should not only be a user of technology but also a producer of competitive digital innovations at the global level,” said Wayan. It is hoped that when these steps are implemented effectively, Indonesia will not only become a large digital market but also a major player in the global digital ecosystem. This aligns with the Golden Indonesia 2045 Vision, which aspires for Indonesia to become a developed country with a strong, inclusive, and sustainable economy.
