Ministry of Communication and Digital Intensifies Socialisation of Child Protection in Digital Spaces Regulation
The Ministry of Communication and Digital (Komdigi) is intensively socialising Government Regulation Number 17 of 2025 on the Implementation of Child Protection in the Digital Space, known as PP Tunas.
Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital Nezar Patria stated that a shared perception between national digital platform operators and the Ministry is necessary to optimise child protection in digital spaces.
"There is indeed a two-year deadline to prepare for the full implementation of PP Tunas. And we can all already refer to it to provide a safe space, a safe digital space for children," he affirmed during a meeting with representatives of national digital platform operators at the Ministry's office in Central Jakarta on Thursday (24/04/2025).
Currently, each digital platform has different characteristics and protocols for handling negative content accessible to children. However, Nezar Patria expressed his hope that digital platform operators could share the same perception regarding the Content Moderation Compliance System (SAMAN) prepared by the Ministry.
"This forum attempts to gather the views of all colleagues on content moderation across their respective platforms, which I know all have their own community guidelines and the same focus," he said.
Nezar Patria believes the public currently wants digital platforms and the government to take action against the emergence of negative content on digital platforms. Therefore, the Ministry and digital platform operators need common ground on the norms and principles for handling negative content.
"I think content such as pornography, as well as other negative content, has a number of shared views at the global level. Especially content that cannot or should not be accessed by our children," he stressed.
Deputy Minister Nezar Patria underscored the importance of discussions between the Government and digital platform operators to convey various concerns and internal arrangements that have been implemented.
"Because child protection in digital spaces is a shared responsibility," he affirmed.
