Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Communication and Digital (Kemkomdigi) is ensuring that disaster survivors in the Sumatra region can access telecommunications services during the transition from evacuation centres to temporary housing or permanent residences. Director General of Digital Infrastructure at Kemkomdigi, Wayan Toni Supriyanto, told ANTARA on Sunday that the government is mapping locations for temporary housing (huntara) and permanent housing (huntap) for disaster survivors, along with the availability of telecommunications services. According to him, Kemkomdigi is coordinating with mobile service operators to meet telecommunications needs in the new settlements for disaster survivors in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra. “Coordination with mobile operators to accommodate the provision of telecommunications services in those new settlement areas,” he said. Kemkomdigi is also collaborating with telecommunications providers to restore digital infrastructure in disaster-affected areas. Wayan stated that telecommunications services in the disaster-affected areas on Sumatra Island were fully restored on Sunday (22/3). “Telecommunications services in the affected areas have been fully restored and have returned to conditions as before the disaster,” he said.
