Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs collaborates to launch Sahabat-AI, a locally-rooted AI platform
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (Kemkomdigi) has collaborated with a mobile operator to launch Sahabat-AI, an artificial intelligence (AI) platform rooted in Indonesia’s local language, culture, and context.
Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs Meutya Hafid, during the launch in Jakarta on Wednesday, said that Sahabat-AI reflects Indonesia’s strategic direction in building national AI capabilities. The platform is a step towards strengthening Indonesia’s digital sovereignty while also realising inclusive digital transformation.
“Technology must open access for anyone, anywhere, without being hindered by language or cultural differences. Therefore, we need AI that is truly Indonesian, built with our language, our cultural values, and the interests of the nation,” said Meutya.
The integration provides wider access for students, creators, professionals, and everyday users to utilise AI in a practical, relevant, and increasingly user-friendly manner. Developed through cross-sector collaboration within the national ecosystem, the platform is said to be a shared commitment to ensure that the benefits of AI can be widely accessed by all members of society.
To ensure safe and responsible use, Sahabat-AI is built with a multi-layered security system that aligns with social norms, cultural values, and ethical standards in Indonesia. This mechanism helps maintain safe interactions, protect users, and preserve Indonesia’s digital space, while still encouraging innovation to develop responsibly.
President Director and Head of Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison, Vikram Sinha, affirmed that the launch of Sahabat-AI reflects the company’s grand goal of empowering Indonesia and that technology should benefit everyone. By making Sahabat-AI open, easily accessible, and widely usable, the company emphasises that the platform is a foundation for innovation that can be used by individuals, startups, businesses, and public institutions in Indonesia.
