Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education strengthens digitalisation to bridge education gap in Teluk Bintuni
The Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education (Kemendikdasmen) is strengthening the implementation of the Digital Learning Programme to reduce disparities in quality and relevant education services in 3T regions, including Teluk Bintuni Regency in West Papua Province.
Minister of Basic and Secondary Education Abdul Mu’ti said the strengthening is realised through the distribution of digital learning devices such as Interactive Flat Panels (IFPs), laptops, and learning content storage media to educational institutions.
“Last year, the education digitalisation programme was implemented through the provision of one IFP per educational institution. Insha’Allah, by 2026, each school will receive an additional three IFPs, bringing the total to four digital learning support devices per school,” Minister Mu’ti said in a written statement released in Jakarta on Sunday.
“As part of the education digitalisation programme, he noted that in 2025, the ministry distributed IFPs to 167 educational institutions in Teluk Bintuni Regency, making it one of the largest recipients of the education digitalisation programme in West Papua Province.”
“Furthermore, Mu’ti said the additional digital devices are accompanied by other support, including teacher training, laptops, learning packages, and infrastructure strengthening to ensure optimal use in classroom teaching.”
“To support power readiness, Kemendikdasmen is collaborating with PT PLN to provide free school electricity upgrades. This strategic move ensures schools in remote areas can maximise learning technology without infrastructure constraints,” Mu’ti said.
“Therefore, Kemendikdasmen, through the West Papua Province Education Quality Assurance Agency (BPMP), is also implementing an outreach programme involving socialisation, mentoring, and coaching for beneficiary schools.”
“Throughout 2025, he added, 20 educational institutions in Teluk Bintuni will receive intensive mentoring, comprising five early childhood education (PAUD) centres, five primary schools, five junior high schools, and five senior high schools.”
“Through this programme, teachers and school principals gain capacity-building to integrate technology into teaching processes, ensuring the received devices are fully utilised.”
“Continuity of the programme is strengthened by the presence of local mentors who support beneficiary schools.”
“Such mentoring is a crucial part of ensuring digital transformation genuinely enhances classroom learning quality,” Mu’ti said.
“During the same event, Teluk Bintuni Regent Yohanis Manimbuy stated that besides physical improvements, the IFP assistance has brought tangible changes in schools, opening up more interactive and modern learning opportunities.”
